Everything you need to know about Apple's 2018 Product Release

Today apple announced their 2018 product line up which included 4 Products, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and the new Apple Watch Series 4.

Whats new about the new iPhone XS phones?




The iPhone Xs have two products and one being the same size as the iPhone X 2017 and the other Xs max rather a large device which is currently the largest iPhone yet to be made by Apple. This year apple released 3 colour variants which are Silver, Space Gray and Gold.

A12 Bionic Chip : The new 2018 iPhones have the A12 bionic chip which Apple states is the most powerful mobile chip ever. As per Apple it is 15% faster than the previous generation A11 Chip and 50% more power efficient. It also has a 4 core GPU which performs 50% better than its predecessor. Apple states that the A12 chip has the capability to identify patterns, make predictions and learn from experience. Due to this new chip we can expect better battery life than the previous generation and better image processing capabilities.

 Display : The display of the the iPhone XS series is quite similar to the iPhone X 2017. The iPhone Xs display is 1125 x 2436 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~458 ppi density) which is identical to the iPhone X 2017, and the Xs Max has 1242 x 2688 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~458 ppi density). 

 Camera : Both iPhone Xs and Xs Max have the same duel lens cameras which is a 12 MP, f/1.8, 28mm, 1.4µm, OIS, PDAF and  a 12 MP, f/2.4, 52mm, 1.0µm, OIS, PDAF, with 2x optical zoom. Apple states that these cameras will be taking advantage of the new A12 Chip to further improve image quality and expand the creative possibilities. The front facing camera is a 7 MP, f/2.2, 32mm lens combine this with the new A12 chip and your portrait mode just got even better.  

Ram & Storage : Both models will have 4GB ram and will have 3 different storage varients which will b 64GB/ 256GB/ 512GB.
  Further more the New iPhones will have an IP68 rating which means the phones can be submerged 2M for 30 minutes. Also apple states that Face ID will be much faster and more responsive compared to last to iPhone X 2017, hopefully we can confirm all of this once the phones release and people get to review the product. The iPhone Xs and Xs Max will support a nano sim as well as an e-sim which will give it dual sim capabilities. 

 Pricing (USD) 

  iPhone Xs : 64GB - $999, 256GB - $1,149, 512GB -  $1,349
 iPhone Xs Max : 64GB- $1,099, 256GB - $1,249, 512GB - $1,449

 The iPhone Xs and Xs Max are scheduled to release on the 21st of September 2018.

iPhone XR
Visually these phones a quite appealing due to the vibrant colours, it reminds me of the iPhone C wonder why apple named this line up "R". This is Apple's budget model for 2018 and I see more potential for this phone to sell more than the flagships released. The iPhone XR also has the A12 Bionic chip. In brief this is the iPhone X 2017 with a bigger 6.1" LCD display with a single rear camera setup with an upgraded CPU. 

The iPhone XR seems quite a good deal specially being under $1000 mark. Its has almost every feature of the iPhone Xs. Compared to the iPhone Xs the defences are; 
  • 3GB RAM vs 4GB
  • IPS LCD display 828 x 1792 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~326 ppi density) VS OLED
  • Single rare camera setup (12 MP, f/1.8, 28mm, 1.4µm, OIS, PDAF which is the same as the iPhoneXS models) vs Dual camera setup
  • IP67 rating vs IP68
  • Does not have 3D Touch
  • Aluminium frame instead of Stainless Steel.
The iPhone XR does have Face ID and wireless charging and it also supports fast charging 50% in 30 minutes. It will also have a 64GB, 128GB and 256GB model. The available colours are Black, Red, Yellow, Blue and Coral. 

Price (USD) : 64GB - $749, 128GB - $799 and the 256GB - $899

Apple Watch Series 4 

The Apple Watch Series 4 was the product that excited me the most as I thought it was the best product out of all the products announced today.

The series 4 Apple Watch has a 30% display and this holds the same case size, apple have achieved this by their completely new curved design and reducing the borders to maximise the screen area. Apple also has made some changes to the crown of the watch by introducing a new digital crown which makes your scrolling much easier and give a haptic feedback which is precise and realistic when using it. The Digital Crown has a titanium electrode built to the tip which give the user the ability to generate an ECG or Electrocardiogram with the help of the heart rate sensor and share with your doctor.

The Series 4 Apple Watch has a new S4 processor which is 2x faster and much more power efficient than the previous Apple Watch. Apple states the watch can it can deliver unto 18h battery life after a single charge. Further more the new speakers will be 50% louder than the series 3 watch. 

Furthermore the Apple Watch will have two different cases made out of aluminium and stainless steel and there will be 40mm and 44mm model. As same as last year there will be a seperate LTE model as well. The Apple Watch series 4 release date will be same as the iPhone Xs release date which is the 21st of September 2018. The starting price will be USD $399.

2018 iPhone mockups by  Curved . Time to talk about the new iPhone/ iPhones coming out this year. So far the highly probable features are the display size and a larger battery capacity. New iPad (2018) announced

Source: Engadget Apple held an education-focused event on 27 March. In this event apple introduced their new 9.7" iPad (2018) with Apple Pencil support. The iPad (2018) is mainly focused on students by making it affordable for schools. However, it is available for average consumers as well. In this event the New iPad (2018) was the only device announced and they did not even leave a hint on any other products to be released. Apple's key focus was to power the classrooms with their iPads and during this event they released new software which will benefit the classroom.  What are the specs?  Display:  the iPad (2018) will have 9.7'' LED backlit display. The resolution will be 2048 x 1536 pixels and a pixel density of 264 ppi. iPhone SE 2 rumored to be announced soon

The iPhone SE was a great budget phone released by Apple in 2016. This phone was targeted for individuals with a small budget, for example students who couldn't afford a Flagship Apple device but still get the iOS experience. Lately there have been a few leaks that Apple is working on a new budget model which is most likely to be the successor for the iPhone SE. Most of the leaks does not confirm that this device will be released, however if it is to happen we can expect to see it as soon as June 2018. What can we expect?
